The Brent Varner ProjectProgram DescriptionThe Brent Varner Project (BVP) offers free medical care to a limited number of people living with HIV. BVP was created in honor of Brent Varner, a Broadway performer who died of AIDS-related complications in 1994, just as his career was beginning to take off. BVP founder, Howard Lawrence Scheiner, MD is a practicing physician in New York City along with his partner at Mid-Town Medical Associates, Dr. Kenneth Schaefer, MD. He has been on the front lines of treating people with HIV from the earliest days when AIDS was first recognized as a new illness.
Program EligibilityUnder the auspices of BVP, clients of the HIV/AIDS Initiative who either have no health insurance or cannot afford the deductibles and co-payments required under existing insurance coverage, can receive free medical care. These services are only available to clients of the HIV/AIDS Initiative living in New York City or the surrounding areas.
Contact InformationClients of the New York HIV/AIDS Initiative should contact their Actors Fund social worker to inquire about participation in the program. BrochuresTOP |
