If you are having trouble making mortgage payments, check with your lender about the possibility of loan modification. Applying for a loan modification can be a long, arduous process. In our experience, we have known people to be turned down multiple times before finally being approved. There are organizations available that can help with this process. Please be aware that there are some fraudulent agencies promising to help with loan modification, so we suggest seeking legal advice prior to signing any documents that you are unsure of. Below are The Actors Fund’s suggestions for loan modification and foreclosure prevention agencies.
Los Angeles Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc.
This organization offers listings of government approved agencies that offer advice on foreclosure prevention, in addition to other information and resources. They also provide a schedule of home preservation clinics and fairs. Please see the website for more details.

NACA is a HUD-certified nonprofit and is nationally recognized as the largest organization in assisting homeowners with unaffordable mortgages. The primary NACA solution is to restructure the existing mortgage by permanently reducing the interest rate to achieve an affordable mortgage payment. The process requires you to attend a workshop, followed by telephone consultations. Please see the Home Save section of the website for a schedule of workshops near you.
