Home Delivered Meals

Citymeals-on-Wheels

Provides home-delivered meals to New York's homebound seniors 60 years old and over.

Encore Community Services

Provides meals each day to home-bound seniors on the West Side of Manhattan from 14th St. to 110th St. from 8th Ave. to the Hudson River and select areas of Midtown.

Meals on Wheels Henry Street Settlement

Homebound seniors or those unable to prepare their own meals 60 years of age and older who live in Manhattan Community Districts 1, 2, 3, 5 or 6 can receive home delivered meals.

Housing

New York City Department for the Aging: Housing

This site lists virtually all of the subsidized low-income and very low-income senior housing sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Also listed are middle income Mitchell-Lama developments which are either wholly or partially set aside for seniors.

Department for the Aging (DFTA)

Access a list of senior centers and other senior services throughout New York City on the DFTA homepage. Under Senior Services found on the left hand side of the page, insert zip code or borough, then chose service of interest.

Public Advocate for the City of New York

The Public Advocate's office seeks to ensure that all New Yorkers receive the city services they deserve. They can be reached by visiting the office in person at 1 Centre Street, 15th Floor, or by phone: 212-669-7250 or email: GetHelp@pubadvocate.nyc.gov.

SAGE New York City

Extends a comprehensive array of affirming services and support throughout New York City to ensure that LGBT older people can age in good health, financially secure and with broad community support.

Services and Assistance

Jewish Association for Services to Aged (JASA)

JASA provides a vast array of social, recreational, health, legal, housing, educational and advocacy programs for seniors 60 years of age and older regardless of race, religion or ethnicity.

New York Foundation for Senior Citizens (NYFSC)

Has a case management program to help coordinate home care and other services for frail residents 65 years of age and older in Manhattan Community Districts 1, 2, 3, 5 & 6, a home attendant program, home repair & safety audit program, home sharing program, ombudsman program to investigate and resolve challenging situations in adult homes and assisted living facilities and a respite care program to give temporary relief for primary caregivers.

Service Program for Older People

Accepts referrals for older adults ages 55 and over. Services include individual insight-oriented and supportive counseling, psychiatric evaluation and supervision of medication, family/caregiver counseling, and short-term behaviorally focused therapy.

Transportation

Access-A-Ride

Provides transportation for people with disabilities who are unable to use public bus or subway service for some or all of their trips. It offers shared ride, door-to-door paratransit service in all five boroughs for the same cost as regular public transportation. An application and interview with a healthcare professional are necessary to determine eligibility.

New York Foundation for Senior Citizens (NYFSC): Project C.A.R.T.

C.A.R.T. van service provides free specialized transportation for the frail elderly. It operates in Manhattan from the Battery to 96th St. on the East Side; and to 110th St. on the West Side.

ReServe, Inc.

Matches continuing professionals with part-time service opportunities at nonprofit organizations and public institutions in order to strengthen their communities while earning a modest stipend.
