The Actors Fund mourns the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lynn Redgrave. Lynn was a staunch and gracious supporter of The Actors Fund as well as an advocate for everyone dedicated to performing arts and entertainment.

Lynn served on the Board of Trustees since 1992 and as a Vice Chair since 2006. She was deeply committed to The Fund in a very personal way, walking with us every year as Captain of The Actors Fund’s EIF Revlon Run/Walk team to raise awareness about women’s cancers, helping develop In the Spotlight, our major gifts program, donating her time and talent to Auction of 1000 Stars by teaching private Shakespeare lessons to many lucky donors and performing in and attending many Special Performances. Lynn was truly one of the warmest and most active supporters of this organization.

As an actress and a writer, she took our breath away. As a Trustee, she inspired us to do our best.
As a human being, she taught us to live with humor and grace. The Actors Fund offers its deepest condolences to her family. She will be sorely missed.

Special Limited Edition Morticia Addams-inspired Nail Polishes designed by Bebe Neuwirth and Essie Cosmetics will benefit The Actors Fund!

Bebe Neuwirth, two-time Tony Award® winner and star of Broadway’s
hit musical The Addams Family, has teamed up with Essie Cosmetics to create Morticia’s Nails, a brand-new limited edition set of three Morticia Addams-inspired nail polishes.

All profits from Morticia’s Nails will directly benefit The Actors Fund. Developed by Ms. Neuwirth and her husband, Chris Calkins, along with Essie Weingarten, president and founder of Essie Cosmetics, Morticia’s Nails ($30 per three-color set) features three thrilling, frighteningly perfect colors – Midnight Tango, Bone Chilling White and Blood Curdling Red – each selected and named by Ms. Neuwirth and inspired by her onstage counterpart.

“I’m thrilled that we’ve partnered with Essie Cosmetics to create this wonderful item that’s not only beautiful in-and-of itself, but will also benefit one of the most vital and worthwhile service organizations in our industry,” Ms. Neuwirth said. “This special edition is limited to 5,000 pieces, which we expect will generate well over $100,000 for The Actors Fund.”

Letters to “Stokes”

Dear Stokes,
I’ve enjoyed attending Special Performances since my husband and I first
became members in 2002. The energy of the casts and the excitement in the audience are so incredible. Which Special Performances have you done, and what was the first one?
Sincerely,
Marge Berg, Member since 2002

Dear Marge,
Thanks for your question and for joining us at these terrific evenings. I’ve done my share of Special Performances for The Fund (Ragtime, Man of La Mancha, and Kiss Me, Kate), so I know what exciting evenings they are, not only for our friends in the audience, but also for everyone in the company.

The first Special Performance was the Theatre Guild’s production of Dubois and Dorothy Heyward’s Porgy in 1927. That play inspired George and Ira Gershwin’s opera classic, Porgy and Bess. Since that time, thousands of people onstage and behind the scenes have joined the tradition of donating their time and talent to raise money for The Fund at these added benefit evenings.

Have a question on your Actors Fund membership? Or maybe a thought to share with your fellow Actors Fund supporters? We’d like to hear from you. Email Brian Stokes Mitchell, our Chairman of the Board, and you could read his response in our next eNews.
Letters may be shortened for space requirements. Please include contact info.
