New Computer Classes Created by AWP—Los Angeles
By John Mattson, Director, AWP—LA

“We especially value the partnership between The Actors Fund, LAUSD, and IATSE Local 80 in Burbank, providing our participants with training and skills to enhance their marketability in the competitive labor market.”
Keith McNutt, Western Region Director, The Actors Fund

AWP—Los Angeles recently partnered with the Westside Education & Career Center at the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Office to offer classes in Microsoft Office at two locations. Ninety-three entertainment professionals attended nine-week courses at Fairfax High School in West LA and at IATSE Local 80’s offices in Burbank from January-March and March-May. This new partnership enables AWP to offer courses winter, spring, and fall and has increased our overall training capacity three-fold from 51 total students in 2010 to a maximum of 150 students in 2011. Student feedback was very positive and a majority of students achieved certificates of competency at the completion of their studies.

Classes will again be offered in the new academic year for 2011-12! Call AWP—LA today to find out more about our free classes at 888.825.0911 or email csorenson@actorsfund.org.
