As a new actor in New York City, Ashley was finding success in her work on stage and television, and also in her recent career shift to DJing.
But coming from Canada, she was unfamiliar with navigating the American health care system and worried that an unexpected health crisis might deplete her modest savings. She made use of The Actors Fund’s Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic for interim care and eventually found health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
In January, she received notice from The Actors Fund that The Hirschfeld Clinic will transform into The Friedman Health Center for the Performing Arts, an expanded wellness facility in midtown Manhattan run in partnership with The Actors Fund and Mount Sinai that provides primary care for people in performing arts and entertainment.
“I was thrilled to hear,” says Ashley. “As the political climate becomes more and more uncertain around health care, it’s comforting to know we have a resource of caring people looking out for our wellness needs.”
Without The Actors Fund and her ACA health insurance, Ashley would face navigating the uncertainty around health care on her own.
“This takes the guess work out,” she noted. “Health care right in Times Square? Try to keep me away!”
