“Welcome to my house, my home, my Broadway! As you take this
very special tour, perhaps you too will be ignited by the incredible
collaborative magic that gives life and light to the theater.”

- from the introduction by Tony Award-winner Brian Stokes Mitchell,
President of The Actors Fund

(New York, NY) In LIGHTS ON BROADWAY with Brian Stokes Mitchell (Blue Apple Books/November 2009/$19.99), the theatrical world vividly comes to life through Elliot Kreloff’s colorful and energetic illustrations, text by award-winning children’s book author Harriet Ziefert, an introduction and postscript (and contribution to the letter “z”) from Tony Award® winner and “Broadway’s last leading man” Brian Stokes Mitchell, and quotes from such Broadway luminaries as Liza Minnelli, Bernadette Peters, Whoopi Goldberg, Kevin Kline, Nathan Lane, Billy Crudup, Harvey Fierstein, Stephen Sondheim and many more. Entries for each letter of the alphabet introduce readers to the behind-the-scenes world of Broadway: “A” for audition, actor, audience and applause; “M” for marquee and matinee; and “S” for stage, scenery, script and set. Readers from 8 to 80 will learn about the Tony Awards, the many people it takes to bring a performance and production to life, how to read the information on a ticket and other essential backstage facts and trivia.

As Mitchell says at the conclusion of this vibrant treasury, “Unlike a movie or television program that is the same no matter where you sit or when you see it, live theater is custom-built for each audience. Every performance is different and every individual in that audience has a unique experience that won’t be repeated ever again...It’s what gives the theater and life … ZING!” Lights on Broadway can be pre-ordered now at and autographed copies are available for $50 at The Actors Fund Store at To find out about ordering multiple copies for holiday gifts, please e-mail Ina Clark at

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Lights on Broadway will be donated to The Actors Fund.
