Robyn, your Best Bet for the Best Seats on Broadway!

Say 'hi" to our new team member! Robyn helps donors access their member benefits, like booking tickets to the hottest shows on the Rialto. We chatted with her about her past work in talent management and PR, the source of her 'Broadway smarts", and what ABC drama she's mad crazy about!

 

Actors Fund: Welcome, Robyn! Tell us about where you were before joining us?
Robyn: Prior to coming to The Actors Fund I was working at a small PR firm a mere 10 blocks away, doing publicity for such entertainment clients as HBO and Lionsgate films. And before that I worked in the talent management side of the entertainment industry at ICM.

AF: From whence stems your love of the theatre?
My love of the theatre roots from way back when I was a kid. Being from Westchester County, my mom and I used to hop the train into the city on a Saturday morning, go shopping, have lunch, and then see a matinee show. It was our special thing we did together. I just fell in love with the music, and when I didn't see shows, I listened to (and sang along to) a ton of scores.

AF: We hear you're a singer? Give us the deets!
I started in high school and then attended the conservatory of music at SUNY Purchase for classical voice performance. While I loved singing opera, my heart has always been singing musical theatre which I still do via small productions. I am also an avid karaoke-goer, and used to host as a side job!

AF: Help! Cousins in from Tucson! How do I pick a show for them?
Oh, that's a toughie - you really have to know the people and narrow it down from there. For example, do they like musicals or plays? Are they theatre buffs or are they just here for the experience? Are they attracted to a celebrity in the cast? So much goes into the process (for me) when recommending a show for someone - since they're here so infrequently, I like to make sure they get the best possible experience!

AF: So I hear you're mad about Grey's Anatomy? Discuss.
Ah Grey's. I am personally not a huge TV watcher, but Grey's is simply my addiction. I guess I've just really connected with the characters. The personalities of Christina, Callie, Miranda, Arizona are all strong female roles that I'm always drawn to. And ohhhh the drama! I especially admire Sara Ramirez (who plays Callie) as she is an incredible stage singer/actress (won the Tony for Spamalot). I actually ran into her in the lobby when I went to see Merrily We Roll Along and was rather star-struck and blurted out 'OH! Sara Ramirez!" To which she turned around somewhat shocked, and replied 'Hi...?" I explained that I was just a big fan - and felt a bit embarrassed. (Smiley face).
