Letter from the President and Executive Director
Dear Friend,
Welcome to the new Web site of The Actors Fund. We’re thrilled that our upgraded site is available to you – someone who wants to learn about The Fund, someone who wants to support our work, someone who wants to see a show, or someone who requires our vital and comprehensive services.
Since 1882, how we help has evolved as the needs of entertainment and performing arts professionals have changed. Today we provide a wide range of essential human services – critical social programs, skilled nursing and assisted living care, free medical care, counseling about health insurance, vocational and educational training, and much more.
We are an organization blessed with committed and strong leadership, with officers and trustees who exercise remarkable stewardship over our funds and services. Our Board of Trustees, Western Council, National Board of Advisors, Friends of Tthe Lillian Booth Actors' Home, and Artists’ Committee demonstrate what is possible when people come together to help others; in collaboration they ensure the effectiveness of The Actors Fund.
In 2004 our support and revenue reached an all-time high of $20.7 million. Because of this achievement, The Fund was able to add $800,000 to its portfolio, bringing the amount under management to $10.9 million.
Through this letter we’d like to give a very special acknowledgement to our single largest funder and close partner, BC/EFA. Their 2004 contributions totaled just over $3 million, supporting our AIDS Initiative, Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative, AIDS Training and Education Project, Actors’ Work Program, and Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic. Year in and year out, BC/EFA’s activities and actions define the word “partnership.”
Thank you so very much for your time in taking a look through our Web site – we hope you’ll note such initiatives of service as making health insurance information and resources available to entertainment professionals, a group more likely than any others to lack this protection; our residences in Englewood, New Jersey, New York City, West Hollywood, and our new housing project in Brooklyn, NY and at our landmark New Jersey home; our new program for young professionals ages 9-18 in Los Angeles; and so much more.
We look forward to hearing from you, and encourage you to join us as a partner. Thank you for your support of the good works of The Actors Fund.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of The Actors Fund,
